Welcome!

We offer a broad spectrum of patient care services, research and education. Our team includes more than 60 physicians and more than 190 nursing, support and scientific staff. The clinic has been directed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Roland M. Schmid since 1 October, 2002.

Our physicians reflect a wide range of specialties and have advanced medical training, extensive clinical and research experience, and technological expertise. Besides general internal medicine we focus on gastroenterologic oncology, hepatology, endocrinology, diabetology, infectious diseases and internal intensive care medicine.

Basic Research

Basic research in theKlinik und Poliklinik für Innere Medizin II focuses on the molecular pathogenesis of diseases of pancreas, liver, and the gastrointestinal tract. Special centres of research are cancerogenesis and acute as well as chronic inflammation of organs of the gastrointestinal system using various in vitro (cell culture) and in vivo models (transgenic animal models). Furthermore, translational research shall identify novel biomarkers that allow diagnosis and predict response to individualized intervention and treatment.
