Research background

Gastrointestinal cancer – Molecular mechanisms of tumor development, maintenance, metastasis and treatment resistance

  • Generation and analysis of genetically engineered inducible and switchable models for gastrointestinal cancer subtypes (pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, bile duct cancer, liver cancer)
  • Tissue specific retroviral gene transfer
  • Discovery of genes and signaling pathways crucial for tumor maintenance, tissue-specific metastasis and treatment resistance
  • Tumor-stroma and tumor-immune system interactions
  • Tumor progression and metastasis of GI cancer
  • Discovery and validation of new targets for treatment of GI cancer

Molecular imaging of gastrointestinal cancer

  • Optical (bioluminescence- and fluorescence) imaging in animal models of GI cancer
  • Molecular endoscopic imaging in humans

Neurogastroenterology

  • Molecular and cellular mechanisms of nitric-oxide signaling in the gut
  • Genetic analysis of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) using the Cre/loxP system
  • Genetic basis of motility disorders
